Water Quality
Clean coastlines are great, but we also need clean water! Our coastal water quality monitoring program tests 9 locations on the southern shore of Aquidneck Island every Thursday. This program started in the fall of 2006 and to date we’ve collected over 2800 samples! This dataset is unprecedented, multi-year, weekly, year-round water quality results north of 40 degrees latitude! We continue to work closely with the City of Newport, Town of Middletown, RIDOH and EPA working towards permanent clean water and year-round water testing. We are always looking for volunteers to help with weekly sampling (takes about 30 minutes), logistics (driving the samples to the lab) and program management (receiving the samples and preparing the cooler for the lab). To get involved, send us a message at info@cleanoceanaccess.org and we’ll get you involved.
