Citizen science volunteers have collected 389 weekly water samples over an eight-year period from Ruggles Avenue as part of our water quality monitoring program. Of the 389 water samples, 32 of them had elevated levels of bacteria that occurred at various points throughout the years. The infrequent, yet elevated levels of bacteria warrant action to identify and eliminate the source, which could possibly be abandoned pipes along the Cliff Walk. Ruggles Avenue is a popular, year-round surfing and fishing destination, so it is imperative that we continue to collect weekly water samples and continue to monitor water quality year-round at Ruggles Avenue.
